Doing Laundry, Folding Clothes, and Time Management

This post is about doing laundry, folding clothes, and time management.

Us OCP (Organizationally Challenged People) have a warped perception of time.  We think everything will take a long time, so we often will not start something until there is “more time”.

But when the heck do any of us have more time!? LOL

We all have the same 24 hours to work with. It clearly is not a time issue because other people with lives as busy or busier than ours have their laundry done, their homes tidy and their dishes done after dinner. It’s not about our circumstances. It’s about our habits.

Most chores in the house takes 5 minutes or less. Even washing the floor should take no longer than 5 minutes unless you have a house like my girlfriend Roberta’s house (it’s really big).

Whether you just wandered onto this page or you are a loyal follower of mine, you are here because you are looking for ways to finally get organized. I was where you are, and I can help you get to where I am now. 🙂

Laundry is one of the most hindering household chores for us OCP.

Because we have a warped perception of time, and think that things take so long, we procrastinate, we think laundry will take too long, so we don’t do it.

Things begin to take long when we can’t find things and have to search for them, when we need to wear something but it isn’t washed so we have to figure out what we will do, or have to run to the store to get something that we have, can’t find, but need.

We think that the OGPs in the world (Organizationally Gifted People) work so hard!

But it isn’t true, we work so much harder by not doing what we need to do when we need to do it, because we are convinced we can’t.

Here is an example: They wash clothes, take them from the dryer, fold them and put them away. We wash clothes, and leave them in the dryer, now they are wrinkled, so either we have to iron them, or we run the dryer again. Then we take the clothes out and stuff them in a laundry basket or grab them in our arms and dump them on the dining room table or our bed, then we leave them there (where they get wrinkled again). Someone needs something and a few of them fall on the floor, in a pile of dirt that we swept up but didn’t pick up cause we couldn’t find the dust pan, or maybe the cat comes along and sleeps in them in which case they have to be washed again.

You see? We end up working harder instead of smarter!

When laundry is done as part of a routine, it is amazing how the laundry monster is tamed.

In this video you are invited into part of my morning routine, real time. As I fold my clothes in my room, we talk about how to get it done, how long it takes, and more.

It was a fun video to do. It is part of my private members area for those who have taken my course, Tidy Tutor University.

Let me know what you think of the video, and what happens to your life when you begin to apply it.

If you are not in Tidy Tutor University, and have always wanted to live an organized life, I invite you to check it out. There are so many of us, and just like you, we are wonderful just the way we are! We are discovering that because we are together, and not afraid to admit our shortcomings, and willing to learn. OMG, I’m telling you, EVERYONE who applies the program sees amazing results!
