Creative Motivation to Clean up a room

We are creative creatures but let’s face it, being creative has gotten us into a lot of trouble!

Beginning on a crafty project often spells disaster for us, before we know it… making dinner get’s put off, doing laundry is forgotten about, food shopping can wait, cleaning up the house is put on the back burner and sometimes we don’t even get ourselves dressed!

We can just dive into a project and get lost until something prompts us to take notice.

I have a great method that will help you use your super powers for good instead of evil!

Believe it or not, we can use that amazing ability to make something out of nothing, that ability to get lost in a project, and use it to clean up the house!

I know the paralyzing effect a messy room can have on you, this tip will take away that feeling of “OMG I CAN’T DO THIS!”

Think of something you can do to spruce that room up a bit .Something that will change it, even just a little bit. Exercising your creative muscle will activate your super powers! The process of making a silk purse out of a sow’s ear will cause you to feel entirely different about tackling that room!

Suddenly, you are rolling up your sleeves and beginning becomes exciting! You’ve got the end in mind from the beginning and it can be a powerful motivator!

In this blog I share a video of what I’m doing to transform my living room from BLAH! to BANG! I used fabric as “Art” and put them in inexpensive frames that I got from Ikea.

Here is another simple little change that I did to my kitchen.

I had to do some zone work… (for those of you not in TTU “zone work” is how we clean the house one section at a time, so that it doesn’t feel overwhelming and so that we get through the entire house each month) OK… Back to my story…

I had to do some zone work in my kitchen and I didn’t feel like it!

I didn’t want to! Like a little child, I was thinking of all the reasons why it was ok for me to skip it today.

So I looked around the room, what could I do that would catapult me into action?
Well, I was really tired of the computer being in the kitchen, it worked for a while, but I was beginning to feel crowded and the wires were starting to bug me and my paper basket was suddenly an eyesore…

So I decided to create a little work station in my living room and clear up that section of my kitchen that the computer was in.

I put a chair in it’s place, that was in my bedroom, (that actually belonged in the kitchen) so it worked out really great for me!

You can do this too!

If you are faced with an “OMG I DON’T WANT TO DO THIS” cleaning project… Look around and ask yourself, what can I do that will get my creative juices flowing?

Use that feeling to get started. See the end from the beginning and trick the child in you that is saying “NO!” to saying “OK! THAT SOUNDS LIKE FUN!” instead 🙂

Let me know what you think about what I did in my living room!

And let me know how this idea worked for you!

Keep an eye out for the completed video of my living room transformation. I recorded all of it and will put it together in a fast forward format to show the entire room being done, beginning to end.
